Getting started
Quickstart
This guide takes you from zero to a working Tylode space in about five minutes. You'll create an account, write a page, set up a board, invite someone and install Tylode as an app on your computer or phone.
1. Create your account
- Go to app.tylode.com/signup.
- Fill in Name, Email and Password (at least 8 characters), and accept the Terms and the Privacy Policy.
- Click Create account. You'll see a message asking you to check your email.
- Open the email from Tylode and click the confirmation link. Then sign in at app.tylode.com/login.
If you'd rather not create a password, click Continue with Google on the sign-up or sign-in screen.
When your account is created, Tylode also creates your first workspace, named "Your name's Workspace". You're its owner, and you can rename it later in Settings → Workspace → Workspace details. Read Key concepts to understand workspaces and your personal space.
2. Answer the welcome question
The first time you sign in, Tylode asks a single question so it can set something up for you: What will you use Tylode for? Choose For me, For work or For studying, then click Create my space.
Tylode creates in your own workspace, in the language you're using the app in, a ready-made dashboard page with a cover, magnets and sample databases, and takes you straight to it:
| You choose | You get |
|---|---|
| For studying | Course organizer: your subjects, your grades with the average worked out for you, and a box with a subpage per subject. |
| For work | Project management: linked projects and tasks, with progress calculated automatically and a weekly review. |
| For me | Personal home page: today's tasks, a clock, quick notes, shortcuts and your schedule. |
It also adds two sample events to your workspace calendar so Home doesn't start empty. They have "(example)" in the name: delete them whenever you like.
Prefer a blank slate? Click Start from scratch and nothing is created.
3. Write your first page
- Click New at the very top of the sidebar and choose Page. You can also go to Home and click + Page under the greeting. On a phone, tap + in the bottom tab bar and choose Page.
- Type a title where it says Untitled.
- Click below the title and start writing. Tylode saves as you type: you'll see Saving… and then Saved.
- Type
/at the start of any line to open the slash menu. Keep typing to filter it, for example/table,/checkor/board, and press Enter to insert the block.
A few things to try with the slash menu:
- Heading 1, Heading 2 and Heading 3 to structure the page.
- Check List for a to-do list.
- Database to add a table with typed columns.
- Board, Calendar or Whiteboard to embed one of them right inside the page.
To add a subpage, hover over the page in the sidebar, open its ⋯ menu and choose New subpage. Learn more in Writing in the editor and Block reference.
4. Create a board
Boards help you organize tasks in lists and cards.
- Click New at the top of the sidebar and choose Board. You can also open Boards in the Workspace group and click New board.
- The board opens straight away with one list. Click the board's name at the top to rename it.
- Click New list to add more lists, for example "To do", "Doing" and "Done". Click a list's name to rename it.
- Click New card, right under the last card of a list, give the card a title, and add a Due date if you like. Click Save.
- Drag cards between lists as the work moves forward.
Cards with a due date show up in the Home calendar, so you always know what's coming. Learn more in Boards.
5. Invite someone
Tylode works best with the people you work or study with. You need to be an owner or admin of the workspace to invite.
- Click the workspace name at the very top of the sidebar and choose Members (on a phone, open the Workspace tab and choose Members at the bottom).
- Type the Person's email and choose a Role: Member (creates and edits content), Admin (manages the workspace too) or Read-only (can read, comment, chat and vote).
- Click Invite.
The person gets an email. If they don't have a Tylode account yet, they sign up with that same email and the invitation is waiting for them. If they already have an account, they'll also see it under Pending invitations in Activity and in the workspace switcher.
On the Free plan a workspace can have up to 3 members, and pending invitations count. See Members, roles and teams.
6. Install the app
Tylode can be installed as an app from your browser. It opens in its own window, straight into your workspace, and shows a badge with your unread count on its icon.
| Device | How to install |
|---|---|
| Chrome or Edge on a computer | Open app.tylode.com, then click the install icon at the right of the address bar, or open the browser menu and choose the option to install Tylode. |
| Safari on a Mac | Open Tylode, then choose File → Add to Dock. |
| iPhone or iPad | Open Tylode in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. |
| Android | Open Tylode in Chrome, open the menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen. |
The installed app needs an internet connection, just like the website. See Install Tylode as an app. On Windows and Mac you also have the desktop app, with system notifications.
