Plans and billing
Limits and what happens when you reach them
Each plan has limits on members, storage, boards, voice calls and more. When you reach one, Tylode stops you from adding more and tells you why; it never deletes what you already have. This page goes through each limit, what you'll see and how to get past it.
For the numbers of each plan, see Plans and pricing. Most limit messages include a See plans link that opens Settings → Billing → Plan and payments.

"Effective plan" means the lower of your plan and the workspace's plan. See Plans are per person.
Workspaces
What counts: every workspace you're an active member of, including your own. Frozen workspaces don't count.
What you'll see:
- When you try to create a workspace: "You've reached your plan's workspace limit", with the number your plan allows and how many you're in, and See plans.
- When you try to accept an invitation: a message saying you need a plan that lets you be in more workspaces, with the option Freeze my workspace and join.
What to do: upgrade (Pro allows 3, Premium unlimited), or join by freezing one of your current workspaces. You can switch back to it later, but then you leave the workspace you joined.
Members
What counts: members of the workspace plus pending invitations. Invitations don't expire, so they keep their place until someone accepts or cancels them.
What you'll see: when inviting someone at the limit, an error saying the plan allows that many people and all places are taken (members and unanswered invitations), with See plans.
What to do:
- Cancel invitations nobody is going to accept, in Settings → Workspace → Members and permissions.
- Remove members who no longer need access.
- Or have an owner of the workspace upgrade: the workspace's plan is the best plan among its owners.
In a Pro or Premium workspace there's a second rule: at most 2 Free accounts. Beyond that, a person with a Free account can't be invited or join until they get their own paid plan. See Free accounts in paid workspaces.
Storage
What counts: storage belongs to each account, not each workspace. It adds up:
- Your own things, wherever you upload them from: My drive, your Studio presentations and your notebooks.
- Everything in workspaces you own: files in pages, chats, Mail, cards and whiteboards, whoever uploads them. If a workspace has several owners, it counts toward the one with the best plan.
What you upload to pages, chats or boards in someone else's workspace counts toward its owner's storage, not yours. You can see how much you're using in Settings → Billing.
What you'll see: when an upload doesn't fit, a message saying it doesn't fit, how much you've used, and that you should free up space or change plans.
What to do: delete files you no longer need, or upgrade (15 GB on Pro, 250 GB on Premium). If it doesn't fit in someone else's workspace, its owner needs to free up space or upgrade.
File size
What counts: the size of each file you upload.
What you'll see:
- In My drive, chats, Mail, cards, whiteboards and Studio: a message giving the file's size and the maximum per file, 5 GB on every plan. What really limits you is your storage.
- In a page: "The file exceeds the 10 MB limit." Files inserted directly into a page are limited to 10 MB on every plan.
What to do: compress or split the file. For large files that don't need to live inside a page, upload them to My drive and link them from the page.
Boards, whiteboards and databases
What counts: all the boards in the workspace, whoever created them; the same for whiteboards and for databases, each with its own limit. Databases created by importing CSV files count. Templates always create their databases, even at the limit, but those count afterwards; whiteboard templates don't count.
What you'll see: when creating one more (from its page, with / on a page or as a magnet), a window: "Upgrade your plan?", explaining that your plan doesn't allow more in this workspace and that what you have stays as it is, with See plans. No empty block is left on the page.
What to do:
- If the workspace is Free, an owner needs to upgrade. If the workspace is paid but you're on Free, you need your own Pro or Premium plan, because the limit uses your effective plan.
- Or free a slot by deleting one you don't need. A database is deleted when the page that contains it is deleted forever from the Trash; removing only the block doesn't free the slot. See Databases.
Formula, relation and rollup columns follow the same rule: on the Free plan they appear as "Formula (Pro)", "Relation (Pro)" and "Rollup (Pro)" and can't be chosen. See Column types.
Page history
What counts: how far back the page's version history goes.
What you'll see: in History, "Your plan keeps 7 days of history. Older versions are still there and will show up again if you change plans." (with 90 days on Pro).
What to do: nothing is lost. If you need an older version, upgrade and it appears again. See Version history.
Voice call length
What counts: on Free, each call in a voice channel lasts up to 30 minutes. The time belongs to the call, shared by everyone in it, not to each person.
What you'll see: a countdown, "The call ends in … — Free plan", then "The call has reached the 30-minute limit of the Free plan." and the call ends.
What to do: join the channel again to start a new 30-minute call, or have an owner upgrade the workspace to Pro or Premium for calls without a time limit. See Voice channels.
Voice participants
What counts: people in the same call: 5 on Free, 25 on Pro, 50 on Premium, according to the workspace's plan.
What you'll see: "This call is full: the workspace's plan allows 5 participants. Move to a higher plan to make room for more people."
What to do: wait for someone to leave, or have an owner upgrade the workspace.
AI credits
What counts: your own monthly credits, the same in every workspace. A command to the assistant (create a page, an event or a card) uses 1 credit; a page summary uses 4. If the assistant fails, the credit is given back. Credits renew on the 1st of each month.
What you'll see: a message saying this month's AI credits are used up, that they renew on the 1st, or that you can change your plan. There's also a daily cap of 100 commands and 20 summaries, with its own message.
What to do: wait until the 1st, or upgrade your own plan (350 credits on Pro, 1300 on Premium). See Assistant.
Integrations
What counts: the personal integrations you connect in Settings → Integrations. Free allows 1; Pro and Premium are unlimited. Google and Spotify can't be connected yet, so for now this section doesn't appear in Settings.
What you'll see: an error saying your plan allows one integration and you already have it connected.
What to do: disconnect the one you have, or upgrade. See Integrations.
Paid features
Features that need a higher plan are visible but locked:
- Settings sections such as Webhooks, Audit log and personal access tokens show Included in Pro or Included in Premium with a short description and See plans.
- Creating an API token on Free says the API is part of the Pro plan. If a token's owner moves back to Free, requests with that token fail until they upgrade again.
- In Studio, paid options carry a crown or a note such as "Included in the Pro plan".
Frozen workspaces
A frozen workspace is one you can still open and read, but not change. Freezing is how Tylode keeps you within your plan's limits without deleting anything or removing anyone.
What you can and can't do
| You can | You can't |
|---|---|
| Open and read everything: pages, databases, boards, whiteboards, calendars, chats, mail and files | Edit or create anything |
| Switch database views and try filters (they aren't saved) | Comment or reply |
| See who's in the workspace | Send chat messages or internal mail |
| Go back to the workspace or upgrade | Upload or delete files |
| Vote in polls | |
| Join voice calls |
A frozen workspace doesn't count toward your workspace limit, and a frozen Free member doesn't take up one of the two Free places of a paid workspace.
When a workspace is frozen
A workspace can be frozen for you in these cases:
- Your plan drops (a downgrade takes effect, you cancel, or a payment fails for good) and you're in more workspaces than your new plan allows. The extra ones are frozen straight away.
- The workspace's plan drops because its paying owner moves to a lower plan (or stops being an owner) and there are more members than the new limit. The most recent members are frozen first. Owners are never frozen this way.
- You join at your limit by choosing Freeze my workspace and join when accepting an invitation.
- You go back to a frozen workspace with Go back to this workspace and your plan doesn't allow one more: if the one you were using is yours, it's frozen; if it belongs to someone else, you leave it (Tylode warns you and asks you to confirm first). To get back in, you'll need to be invited again. This way you can't hop between workspaces with a one-workspace plan.
Which workspaces stay active
When your plan drops, Tylode keeps active as many workspaces as the new plan allows, in this order:
- Workspaces that are active right now.
- Among them, the ones you own.
- Then the ones you joined earliest.
The rest are frozen. On Free, that usually means your own workspace stays active and the others are frozen. The same order decides which of your workspaces is frozen when you use Freeze my workspace and join.
The frozen banner
At the top of a frozen workspace you'll see:
❄️ This workspace is frozen: you can see everything, but not edit or create anything. If you return to it and your plan doesn't allow more workspaces, you'll leave the other person's workspace you're in now.
With two buttons: Go back to this workspace and See plans. In the workspace switcher, frozen workspaces show ❄️ and Frozen instead of your role.
Unfreeze a workspace
- Upgrade your plan. Your frozen workspaces are reactivated automatically, as many as the new plan allows.
- Go back to it. Click Go back to this workspace in the banner. It becomes active, and if your plan doesn't allow more workspaces, the one you were using is frozen instead. If it's a paid workspace that already has its two Free accounts and you're on Free, you'll see an error saying you need a Pro or Premium plan to go back.
- If it was frozen because the workspace's plan dropped, it's unfrozen automatically when an owner upgrades again, as long as there's room and your own plan allows you to be in it.
Downgrading never deletes content
Moving to a lower plan, cancelling or a failed payment never deletes your content:
- Boards, whiteboards and databases over the new limit stay and keep working; you just can't create more until you're under the limit.
- Existing formula, relation and rollup columns keep working.
- Files stay where they are. If the workspace is over its storage, you can't upload more until you free up space.
- Page versions older than the new history window are hidden, not deleted, and come back if you upgrade again.
- Members over the new limit are frozen, not removed.
- Studio effects you already applied stay visible and are exported as they are; you just can't apply more.
