Pages and editor
Dashboard pages
A page doesn't have to be a single column of text. With + Magnet you turn it into a dashboard: blocks you place wherever you like, that move, resize and snap into a grid on their own, like magnets on a fridge. Some text here, a calendar there and your tasks in a corner in their own color.
A page without magnets looks as it always did. It becomes a dashboard as soon as you add the first one, and then its usual text becomes one more magnet too (the main text).
Add a magnet
Click + Magnet, next to Add icon above the title. On a page that's already a dashboard, there's also a floating + Magnet at the bottom, which follows you as you scroll down the page.
The menu has two groups:
| Magnet | What it is |
|---|---|
| Text | Another text, with everything the editor has: headings, lists, tables, photos and, with /, any block. |
| Callout | A text with a background color, for what needs to stand out. |
| Image | A photo or an illustration. Click it to Upload an image or Change image. |
| Clock | The time and date. Make it big and it also shows your agenda for the next few days (the workspace calendar and your personal one). |
| Form | A database form to respond to from the page, also on the published page. When you add it, pick one of the workspace's forms with a link (see Form). |
| YouTube | A video or a playlist. Small, the thumbnail with its title; bigger, the player, which grows with the magnet. See The YouTube magnet. |
| Sections | A box with a name, an icon and a list of pages. See The sections box. |
| Database | A new database, with its Table view. |
| Page gallery | A database in Gallery view: cards with a cover that open as a page. It starts clean, with just the cards. |
| Calendar | The workspace calendar. When its magnet is narrow, it switches to a compact version: the month with colored days and a list of what's coming. |
| Board | A board of cards: pick one you already have or create a new one. |
| Whiteboard | A whiteboard: pick one you already have or create a new one. |
Database, Page gallery, Board and Whiteboard count toward your plan's limits, just as if you created them any other way. If you're already at the limit, Tylode doesn't create the magnet and explains why.
Move, resize and color
Hover over a magnet and a bar appears at the top:
- Move: drag the ⠿⠿ handle on the left. The other magnets make room and gaps close up on their own.
- Resize: pull the right, left or bottom edge, or the bottom-right corner. A text magnet is never shorter than what it holds: it grows on its own if you write more than fits.
- Magnet options (⋯, on the right): Background color, with Tylode's eight tones or No color, and Remove magnet. The main text can't be removed.
Removing a text magnet also deletes its text. Removing a database, gallery, board or whiteboard magnet doesn't delete what it shows: it still exists in the workspace.
Click an empty gap in the dashboard to jump to the end of the main text and keep writing.
The sections box
It keeps the subpages of a topic (subjects, clients, projects) at hand inside the dashboard.
- Type the box's name at the top and pick its icon.
- New subpage creates a page inside this one and adds it to the box.
- Add a page searches the workspace's pages and adds the one you pick.
- Drag pages to change their order.
- Each page's ✕ removes it from the box, but doesn't delete it.
The YouTube magnet
Paste a link to a YouTube video, short, live stream or playlist and click Add. If the link has a start time (?t=90), the video starts there.
- Small: the thumbnail with the title on top. Click ▶ to watch it right there.
- Bigger: the player, with the title, the channel and Open in YouTube below. The bigger you make the magnet, the bigger the video, always in its proportions. In a playlist, you pick videos from the player itself, and its full-screen button shows it on the whole screen.
Until you click ▶ only the thumbnail loads, so a dashboard with several videos stays fast. It plays in YouTube's privacy mode: inside the magnet you're not signed in to your YouTube account.
To show a different video, open ⋯ and choose Change video. On mobile it shows as a card that opens the video in YouTube.
On mobile
On your phone, a dashboard has its own view, made for your finger:
- Small. Each magnet goes in its own card. Small ones (the clock, an image, a sections box or a narrow highlight) go two by two, and the rest take the full width. Long text is trimmed with See all, and a database, board or whiteboard shows a summary.
- Full screen. Tap a magnet to open it big, with ‹ and the page title to go back.
- In its own order. Arrange for mobile, at the end of the dashboard, changes the order on your phone (press and hold, then drag) and hides the magnets you don't need there. On a computer the dashboard doesn't change. Back to the computer's order resets it.
The YouTube magnet is a card that opens the video on YouTube, and the form magnet is filled in when you open it big. On your phone magnets can't be moved or resized: back on a wide screen, they're where you left them.
Collaborate on a dashboard
Magnets travel with the page: anyone who has it open sees them move, resize or fill up live. Two people can move different magnets at the same time without getting in each other's way.
All of Tylode understands dashboards
- Search finds what you write in any text magnet. See Search.
- Version history: every version saves the magnets and, when you restore it, they come back as they were. See Version history.
- Duplicating and templates: the copy comes with all its magnets in the same place. See Organize pages and Templates.
- Export: the PDF and the Markdown include the main text and then each magnet's text, top to bottom and left to right. See Export pages.
- Tylor and the API read the magnets' text too. See Assistant and Pages API.
- Marketplace: a dashboard page is published whole, with its magnets, its databases and its cover.
Templates that start as dashboards
Personal home page, Course organizer, Project management and Financial dashboard are created already laid out as dashboards, with a cover and colored magnets. Use them as a starting point and move everything around as you like. See Templates.
