Pages and editor
Organizing pages
All the pages in a workspace live in the Pages section of the sidebar, arranged as a tree: top-level pages, with subpages nested under them as deep as you like. Keeping that tree tidy is what makes a workspace easy to find your way around.
Pages are unlimited on every plan, so split big documents into subpages whenever it helps.
The page tree
The Pages section shows every page you can see in the current workspace. Its header has three buttons: Templates, Trash and + (New page). If there are no pages yet, it says No pages yet. Create your first one with the + button.
- Click a page to open it. The open page is highlighted.
- To Expand or Collapse a page's subpages, hover over the page: its icon turns into an arrow. Click the arrow. Only pages that have subpages show it, and on touch screens it's always visible.
- Pages saved as templates don't appear in the tree; you'll find them under Templates (see Templates).
Rename a page
Double-click a page's title in the sidebar, type the new name and press Enter (or Esc to cancel). You can also choose Rename in the ⋯ menu, or simply edit the title at the top of the page.
The page menu
Hover over a page (on touch screens it's always visible) and click ⋯ to open its options:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| New subpage | Creates an Untitled page nested under this one and opens it. |
| Rename | Lets you edit the title right in the sidebar. |
| Add to favorites / Remove from favorites | Pins it at the top of the sidebar, under Favorites (only in your sidebar). |
| Duplicate | Creates a copy right below it, with "(copy)" in the title, the same icon, the same cover, the same content (magnets included) and its subpages, and opens it. |
| Move to… | Puts it inside another page, or takes it out to the top level. |
| Move up / Move down | Moves the page one position among the pages at the same level. |
| Move to trash | Sends the page to the trash after asking you to confirm. |
Favorites, Duplicate and Move to… are also in the ⋯ at the top right inside the page itself.
Move to trash takes the page's subpages with it; the menu tells you how many (for example, "Takes 3 subpages with it"). Everything can be restored from the trash until it's deleted forever.
Reorder pages
Press and hold a page in the sidebar and drag it to its new position; it works the same with a mouse and a finger. You can reorder pages only among pages with the same parent: top-level pages among themselves, or subpages within the same page. You can also use Move up and Move down in the ⋯ menu.
The order you set is the same for everyone in the workspace.
Subpages and the Index block
Subpages are the main way to structure content: a "Project" page with "Meetings", "Specs" and "Decisions" under it, for example. Create them with New subpage in the ⋯ menu.
To list a page's subpages inside the page itself, insert an Index block (/index). It shows a live list of the page's direct subpages as links and updates by itself when you add, rename or trash one. See Block reference.
Page icons
Above each page's title there's an Add icon button: click it and pick an emoji, or type or paste any other (your system's emoji keyboard has them all: Win+. on Windows, Ctrl+Cmd+Space on Mac). The icon also shows in the sidebar. To change or remove it, click the icon itself.
Instead of an emoji, the icon can be a badge: a line drawing on a colored square, matching the rest of Tylode. In the picker, switch to the Badge tab, choose the Color first (there are eight tones) and then one of the twelve drawings: page, book, graduation cap, tasks, calendar, chart, money, briefcase, idea, star, heart and home. To go back to an emoji, use the Emoji tab.
Next to it there's Add cover: a band above the title. Pick one of the twelve colors and gradients, or click Upload an image to use your own photo (up to your plan's file size; it counts toward the workspace's storage).
Hover over the cover to Change cover or Remove it. If it's a photo, Reposition appears too: drag the image up or down (or use the arrow keys) until the part you want shows, then click Save position.
Duplicate a page
⋯ → Duplicate, in the sidebar or inside the page. The copy appears right below the original, with its subpages, its cover and, if it's a dashboard page, all its magnets in the same place. It opens straight away.
What the page embeds —a table, a board, a calendar, a whiteboard, a poll or a voice channel— isn't duplicated: the copy shows the same one, and whatever you change there shows in both. Tylode tells you when you duplicate a page that has any.
Move a page into another
⋯ → Move to… opens the list of the workspace's pages, with a search box. Pick the new parent, or Top level of Pages to take it out of where it is. The page goes to the end of its new level, with its subpages. You can't move a page into itself or into its subpages: those aren't in the list.
Favorites
Pages you mark with Add to favorites show at the very top of the sidebar, under Favorites, in the order you marked them. They're yours: nobody else in the workspace sees them. To remove one, hover over it under Favorites and click the star, or use ⋯ → Remove from favorites.
