Mail is Tylode's internal mail: messages with a subject, organized in threads, sent between Tylode accounts. Use it for things that deserve a subject line, go to several people, or that you'll want to find again later.
Internal mail, not email
Mail isn't an email client:
- You can only write to people who have a Tylode account. You can't send to, or receive from, Gmail, Outlook or any other email address.
- Messages never leave Tylode.
- Your mail is personal and the same in every workspace. It shows every thread you're part of, whichever workspace it was sent from.
Open Mail
Mail and Chats live together in Communication:
- Click Communication at the top of the sidebar (on a phone, tap Messages in the bottom tab bar). It opens on your chats.
- Above the list, click the Mail tab. Each tab shows its unread count.
You can also open Activity, the bell in the top bar, and click Open mail at the bottom of the panel.
To go straight to a particular thread, you can also search for its subject with global search (Ctrl+K, or Cmd+K on Mac) and open it from the results.
Write a message
- Open Mail and click + (Compose). The New message window opens.
- Choose who it's for under To:
- Click the name of any member of the current workspace to add them. Click again to remove them.
- To write to someone outside the workspace, type their email address in …or type an email and click Add (or press Enter). The address must belong to a Tylode account exactly; if it doesn't, you'll see "There's no account with that email.". Click × next to a person to remove them.
- Write a Subject.
- Write your message in Write your message….
- Optional: click Attach image to add an image.
- Click Send. To discard the message, click Cancel.
When you write to several people, everyone shares the same thread and sees every reply.
Read and reply
Click a thread in the list to open it. Messages appear in order, oldest first.
To answer, write in Reply… at the bottom, optionally click Attach image, and click Reply. Everyone in the thread gets your reply.
Archive a thread
Click Archive at the top of a thread to take it out of your mail. Archiving only affects you: the other people in the thread keep it.
To see them, choose Archived above the list (and Inbox to go back). Inside an archived thread, the same button is Unarchive and puts it back in your inbox. If someone replies to a thread you had archived, it comes back to your inbox on its own, unread.
Search Mail
- Click the magnifying glass (Search the inbox) at the top of the list.
- Type in Search by subject or content….
- Each result shows the subject and the part of the message that matches (or "subject matches" when it's the subject). Click one to open it.
Unread messages
- Unread threads appear in Activity, under Mail, by subject. They count towards the number on Activity, on Communication and on the Mail tab.
- Opening a thread marks it as read.

Who can use Mail
Everyone in a workspace can send and receive internal mail, including read-only members.
In a frozen workspace you can read your mail, but you can't send messages or replies from there.
For developers
The REST API lets you list threads (including archived ones), read a thread, send a message, reply, and mark threads as read or archived. The MCP server has the same tools. See Communication API and MCP.
